Traffic accidents are the most dangerous threat to the health and lives of people around the world. Damage caused by road accidents exceeds the damage caused by all other transport accidents (air, sea, rail, etc.) taken together. The problem is aggravated by the fact that the victims of traffic accidents are, as a rule, young and healthy people, fit for work. Road accidents cause enormous social, material and demographic damage to the economy of any country and society as a whole. In the Republic of Moldova during the years 2000–2019, 7702 people died in road accidents, and 63560 people were traumatized. The article contains a brief analysis of road accident statistics in the last 20 years in the Republic of Moldova and in different geographical areas of the globe.
