Abstract

The transport of steel strip slit coils by road is a critical logistics operation that requires strict compliance with safety regulations and the implementation of appropriate securing solutions. Improper load securing may lead to load displacement, material damage, and significant safety risks during transportation. This paper aims to present and analyse the current regulations in Europe and worldwide governing the transport of steel strip slit coils, together with practical securing solutions used in truck transport today. A structured overview is employed to provide a systematic classification of the regulatory framework and existing securing approaches. Furthermore, the study includes the development of analytical calculations to estimate the forces acting on the load under typical transport conditions, such as braking, acceleration, and cornering. These calculations are systematically applied across a parametric design space of coil configurations based on industrial slitting line specifications to assess the standing stability of individual slit coil rings. The findings contribute to improving load safety and support decision-making in the design and selection of transport solutions for steel strip slit coils.
