Abstract

This paper reviews ABs as they are increasingly viewed as a transformative element in urban mobility systems, with potential benefits including improved safety, reduced congestion, and enhanced accessibility. However, their successful deployment depends not only on vehicle technology but also on the adaptation of supporting infrastructure, especially bus stops, which act as key interaction points between users and the system. ABs require redesigned bus stops that support automated docking, safe interaction with vulnerable road users, and continuous communication with the vehicle.
