Abstract


This study aims to evaluate the effect of overloading on the braking performance of light commercial vehicles. It focuses on testing and verifying deceleration, acceleration, and braking distance based on the load level and the positioning of the load in the cargo compartment. By conducting a series of tests designed to evaluate the impact of load level and cargo positioning on vehicle performance in terms of stopping distance when braking from various speeds. Using a specially equipped vehicle, data obtained in various braking scenarios were recorded and analyzed. Analysis of the collected data revealed significant relationships between the load factor, cargo positioning, and braking system performance. It was found that excessive loading or improper cargo positioning can significantly affect the vehicle’s ability to decelerate effectively and stop within an adequate stopping distance. The study provided a critical analysis of the effect of overloading light commercial vehicles on braking system performance and road traffic safety.
