Abstract


With advanced technologies that continue to evolve, OEMs must find ways to improve product quality, expand their functional portfolio, and reduce costs. All of this must be achieved by following strict, continuously improved guidelines and procedures across all disciplines involved in the production process, from engineering to logistics. This paper analyses guidelines and procedures used by OEMs and their suppliers and sub-suppliers, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages and proposing good practices that could improve processes in today’s automotive market challenges. Automated manufacturing processes reduce manufacturing time, mitigate human errors, improve quality and enhance process stability. AI can be used in more areas like logistics, programming and engineering support. Parametric design automates repetitive tasks and reduces the time and effort engineers spend on product design and development. By using parameters and relations, the concept can be transformed into a variety of products and maybe also different designs. Parametric design can be used both in component design and assembly design up to a certain complexity level. Robots, AI, and parametric design help humans evolve in their work, minimising effort and increasing profits.
