Abstract

The self-propulsion of the vehicle, in the case of the hybrid electric powertrain, does not depend solely on a single energy source, but on the interaction between the internal combustion engine, the electric machine, the rechargeable energy storage system, as well as the advanced energy control system. As a result, the self-propulsion of the hybrid electric vehicle can only be possible if it simultaneously meets the mechanical condition, the energetic condition, and the efficient use of stored energy. This paper will detail the general conditions for self-propulsion, the efficient management of energy, as well as the additional energy constraints that arise in the case of coupling power sources.
