Nonlinear vibrations in a mechanism with clearances

Abstract


A crank-slider mechanism is considered, for which the clearance is situated between the slider and the support (which is characteristic of a translational moving element). In this way, it is possible for the mechanism to have one or two degrees of freedom. The clearance may disappear when the translational moving element has certain inclinations relative to the axis of translational motion (the mechanism has a single degree of mobility) or it may exist for other inclination values (the mechanism has two degrees of mobility). The inclination angle between the translational moving element and the axis of translational motion is considered to be modeled by a nonlinear function with extreme values if this angle marks the contact between the two elements. In this way, the mechanism becomes one with a single degree of mobility. This mechanism is studied, highlighting the presence or absence of contact between elements. The study is numerical. An example illustrates the theory presented in the paper.
